the joetsu city new ALT welcome party
once again, it was time again to throw a party for the new ALTs. last year, it was us. but this year, we got to exercise our cool, senior we-know-what-we're-doing aura. it was usual great fun including nomihodai and tabehodai (all you can drink and eat for 2 hours), rowdiness, dancing, drunkenness, and the inevitable next day forgetfulness. i got to meet some new people as well as seeing some friends that i hadn't seen in a while
the four of us, carrie, tiff, me, and mary, managed to get ourselves together for the party. this was one event we didn't want to be late for due to the all you drink session starting promptly at 7:00
simon, our RA or regional advisor, from the uk, a third year, and great guy, gave the welcoming speech. we 'kampai!!'ed our beer and let the festivities begin
martin, a brit and second year, and i pre-drink
and then mid-drink. i always love taking bathroom shots after i heartily imbibe in libations, reason unbeknownst to me. this particular bathroom was perfect for being our makeshift
studio. tiff and i
carol ann, a scot, and i outside of the beer garden en route to the next bar
and we wonder why everyone always remembers who we are . . . we never remember because of alchohol over-indulgences. oops
another one of those damn bathroom shots
oota san is on bottom, and toshiki is up top. they're great fun. both of them are dj's, and we make it out to their events frequently. they love having us - the token foreigners - because we're loud, rowdy, and (hopefully!?) fun. the bottom guy works constantly at our favorite coffee internet cafe, nest. they both love great music
another occasion of us being very . . . . well, foreign. unjapanesey of us to say the least! i don't think this poor boy knows what to make of us
carrie and i at nest
russell and i at pta, our favorite karaoke bar. russell is a relatively recent friend; he's lived in joetsu for 5 years - his mother is japanese and lives in japan as well. he makes fantastic furniture for a living, and i really enjoy his company. this is towards the end of the night; i have no idea how i managed to look so put together

if it weren't for digital cameras...would we ever know the true extent of our drunken ridiculousness. how much fun!! as of late, i'd have to say we've carved out quite a social niche which is so welcome considering how worried we were about the lack of goings-on when we first arrived. who's that boy i'm kissing on?! can we please go out and raise some more ruckus!!? i mean right after i nap and recover from last night's festivities...
